Albany, GA – The Mayor and Commissioners, amended Section 22-32(b) of the City Code to revise the Municipal Court Solicitor and Municipal Court Public Defender qualifications. The objective is to ensure a wider pool of applicants for the positions.

The amended ordinance would allow an applicant with the following qualifications to apply; a person should be at least twenty-five (25) years of age, a member of the State Bar of Georgia, and a practicing attorney with a minimum of one (1) year experience in the state. The municipal court solicitor and municipal court public defender after the appointment should continue to possess qualifications and should not hold or qualify for a city or county elected official position. Currently, the position qualifications require five (5) years’ experience and thirty (30) years of age.
