Post Date:05/27/2020 8:46 AM

Albany, GA – The Mayor and City Commissioners voted to amend City Ordinance 08-140 to increase City ad valorem taxation equal to six times the millage rate for real property maintained in a blighted condition.

Currently, the millage rate applied to a blighted property is (3) times the standard mileage rate. The approval to amend the ordinance will double to (6) times the City's millage. The City of Albany's millage rate is currently 9.729, and the new millage rate for blighted properties will be 58.374. The increased revenues will be separated and applied to redevelopment in the community.

In the meeting, the board amended the fiscal year 2020 budget to increase the demolition budget from $400,000 to $600,000 to address dilapidated structures in the community. The funding will come from the General Fund balance for this fiscal year 2020.
