Road and Alleys Closed for Off-Campus Student Housing Development
Albany, GA (September 24, 2019) – The Mayor and City Commissioners approved the closure of a portion of E. Second Avenue and two unopened alleys for off-campus student housing by a private developer.
Matthew Davis, Davis Companies Developer, has proposed an off-campus student housing development on property located east of Radium Springs Road adjacent to the Albany State University (ASU) campus. As part of the development, Mr. Davis requested that an unopened portion of E. Second Avenue and two unopened alleys that are intersecting the proposed development be closed and the former rights of way be deeded to him so that they can be incorporated into the complex. There is an existing sanitary sewer line owned by the City of Albany in E. Second Avenue. The closure will require the developer to grant a 40' wide utility easement allowing the City to maintain access to the existing infrastructure.
Mr. Davis, the Developer, stated, “This 217-bed student housing development is designed specifically for students at Albany State University. The idea is for students to have an exceptional living space with a pool in the center and green space for gathering while being able to walk to classes.”
