City Smart Communities Team Presents at Georgia Tech
The Albany GA Smart Communities Team presented its Albany Housing Data Analytics and Visualization Initiative during the GA Smart Fall Workshop at Georgia Tech on September 5, 2019.
This innovative initiative will have a positive impact on the community and serve as a transparent tool to tell the story of the impact of local investments of federal funds allocated through the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Steven Carter, CIO and the Smart Communities Team Lead: “This new portal was designed to meet a specific need that existed within DCED. However, the possibilities quickly expanded beyond our initial expectations. This new open data portal will fundamentally transform how we share and consume data in Albany for years to come. This initiative represents what can be done when we have collaboration from private, education, and governmental entities including functional team members from ESRI, GA Tech, and several departments within Albany/Dougherty County.”
It will also serve as a conduit to house relevant community data through visible dashboards that display data using a user-friendly method; promote housing sustainability improving residents’ quality of life and empower citizenry to become more actively engaged in strategic planning with the City. From the Community and Economic Development Director, Mrs. Shelena Hawkins: “This initiative will have a spillover effect within our communities as housing is not just about the structure itself, but also everything positive or negative that surrounds it.”
