Albany Transit Receives Grants for Urban Bus & Facilities
Albany, GA (July 23, 2019) – The commission accepted the FY2020 Section 5339 Discretionary Grants for Urban Bus and Bus Facilities for $4,250,000.
The City of Albany Transit Department applied and were awarded 4,250,000 dollars in capital assistance federal funding. These funds have been allocated for the procurement of six new compressed natural gas buses ($2,880,000) and additional funding for the Albany Transportation Center project (1,370,000). Acceptance of this award will also allow the city's transit fleet to become 100% compressed natural gas (CNG). The federal government will pay 80% (4,250,000), and Albany Transit will have to match 20% (1,370,000).
David Hamilton, Director of Transportation, expressed, “It is important that we continue to apply for grants to assist us in staying current in the transportation industry. We are looking forward to adding to our fleet of CNG buses.”
