Spill Notice Lift Station 81

Post Date:12/05/2018 4:00 PM

On the morning of 12/2/18, portions of the City of Albany received between 6 and 9 inches of rainfall. This caused numerous drainage canals and ponds to overflow their banks. Sanitary Sewer Lift Station 81 is located adjacent to a large drainage canal in the 300 block of South Westover Blvd. When the canal overtopped its banks, Lift Station 81 was completely flooded by the storm water, resulting in a total power loss and equipment failure at the station. Because of the loss of the sanitary station from 2 AM on 12/2/18 through 2 PM 12/3/18, an estimated 1,200,000 gallons of sewage flowed into the Percosin Canal system near the 300 block of South Westover Blvd. As soon as the flood waters receded, work began to repair the flooded components and restore power. The station became fully functional on 12/3/18.

As a precaution, the public is advised to avoid contact with water in the City canal for the next 30 days.  No City of Albany drinking water systems were affected.

For more information on the pump stations contact Mr. Jeffery Hughes, Sewer Systems Superintendent, at 229.883.8998.
