Debris Collection Continues
The storm debris from Hurricane Michael is still being collected throughout the city by the contractor Ceres and is being managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Together, the agencies will collect from residents three times. They are currently working on the first collection or first pass.
Citizens are encouraged to keep storm debris separated from building materials and place all debris on the right-of-way away from catch basins, gutter lines, fire hydrants, and utilities. If all the debris is not picked up on the first pass, there will be two more opportunities for the debris to be removed by the contractor. After every pass, citizens are asked to pile the remaining debris neatly for the next passes.
The City and TransWaste are now collecting yard trimmings, but only if it is separated from the storm debris pile. Yard trimmings are considered vegetation that can be passed over by a lawnmower and raked into a pile.
